Vodafone UK has just announced its 4G network rollout will begin on August 29th, with London to be the first city to go live. Twelve more locations will get switched on before the end of the year, including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds and Sheffield (full list after the break).

Almost 600,000 base stations to be upgraded to LTE-A by 2018

Yota launched the first LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network in Russia last October; however, with the first compatible handset, SK Telecom was the earliest to make the technology commercially available in June 2013. Within two weeks, the South Korea operator has already claimed over 150,000 subscriptions, roughly 0.6% of its total. The US will have at least four LTE-A networks in service by the end of 2013 as well. This fierce competition will see more than half of the LTE subscribers in North America using LTE-A by 2017, according to research firm ABI Research.

Siemens shops NSN stake to private equity firms - report

Siemens is sounding out private-equity firms about buying its 50 percent stake in Nokia Siemens Networks, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. The German conglomerate has approached a number of buyout funds, including TPG, Blackstone and KKR, to gauge their interest in buying the stake. Another possibility, less likely, is a sale of Siemen's stake in the venture, the report said. Analysts say the entire NSN business, if it were public, could be worth more than EUR 7 billion including debt.
