Sprint today brought its Sprint Spark brand of 4G LTE service to Chicago and some surrounding markets of the Chicagoland area. So what exactly is different about Sprint Spark 4G? Not much other than the technology set-up. Spark is just a brand name that Sprint has used to describe its network that combines three bands of spectrum designed to increase speeds, better handle network demands in congested areas, and offer improved coverage indoors.
Many Sprint customers have been without 4G service because of the network's comparatively slow rollout of LTE service, but today's launch should be a massive improvement compared to what users have previously experienced. Customers with Sprint Spark compatible phones - including the LG G2, Samsung Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S 4 Mini, and HTC One Max - can access the tri-band peak speeds of 50 to 60 Mbps.
Chicago area Sprint subscribers should notice overall improvements to the 3G network performance as well as changes in 4G. Sprint says that it has similar Spark network enhancements in New York, Los Angeles, Tampa, and Miami.
